Presently, Kūčios is still a popular celebration that reunites families around the dinner table, with various activities and stories passed on from generation to generation.

Unlike the Christmas dinner, which is characteristically heavy with roasted meats, Kūčios is entirely vegetarian. This tradition indicates the importance of the event and the focus on nature's provision. The quantity of items on the table is also considered to be necessary. Usually, there are twelve of them, representing the twelve apostles or twelve months of the year. Some of the most common Kūčios dishes include: Kūčiukai: These little wheat flour cookies with poppy seeds and honey are indispensable at Kūčios. They are best served plain or with poppy seed milk by the side. A dish prepared with barley or wheat malt, fruits, honey, and nuts that are boiled in water to make a porridge. It is a dish that symbolizes the wealth and fertility of the family. Salted Fish: Some would like to remember the pre-Christian times, so there will be some dish of fish, pickled or salted, like herring or cod. Mushroom Dishes: Mushrooms are rather diverse in Lithuania, and Kūčios would not be complete without them, prepared as soups or stews. Beetroot Salad: Beetroot salad is a perfect addition to other dishes, a bright and tasty side dish that can be an exquisite table decoration.
